A Vocabulary of Antiquity. The paintings of the Domus Aurea and its reception in the Renaissance Age

The aim of the project is to investigate the possible relationship between the figurative themes of the paintings of the Domus Aurea and the literary taste of Nero, attested by the Latin sources. Since many paintings are not more visible, the first step of the research is to collect all the Reinassance drawings that reproduce the paintings of the Domus Aurea. The different drawings with a same figurative theme will be compared in order to understand which was the original figurative theme in the paintings of the Domus Aurea and which was its relationship with the contemporary literature. The second aim of the research will be to define how the paintings of the Domus Aurea influenced the visual conception of the Antiquity to the main Renaissance authors of the drawings.
