Thirdspace in Assyria and Urartu

Thirdspace ist, laut H. Lefebvres und E. Sojas Konzepten zur Produktion von Raum, der Ort, der alle realen und imaginierten Räume simultan beinhaltet. In ihm wird durch das Aufeinandertreffen von Materialität und Ideologie eine gelebte Realität kreiert, in der beständig Identitäten geformt werden. In meiner Dissertation baue ich auf diesem theoretischen Gerüst auf, um Fragen nach dem Entstehen und Verändern von Identitäten auf den Grund zu gehen. Dabei dient die Beziehung von Assyrien und Urartu als Fallstudie. Während des 1. Jahrtausends v.u.Z. war die Nordgrenze Assyriens wiederholt Schauplatz bewaffneter Auseinandersetzungen mit Urartu. Die Geschichte dieses eisenzeitlichen Königreichs im ostanatolischen Hochland war daher in hohem Maße von der ständigen Bedrohung durch das expandierende Reich in seinem Süden geprägt. In meiner Dissertation beschäftige ich mich mit den Auswirkungen dieses Aufeinandertreffens, indem ich die Wahrnehmung und Produktion von Raum in jeder dieser sozio-politischen Einheiten betrachte. Mit einem sinnesarchäologischen Ansatz rekonstruiere ich dafür zunächst die geplante Erfahrung urartäischer und neuassyrischer Architektur. Das heißt, ich leite daraus jeweils ein spezifisches Raumverständnis ("räumlicher Habitus") ab. Dann vergleiche ich diese kulturell produzierten Räumlichkeiten, insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund, wie ein assyrisches Subjekt die urartäische Umwelt (z.B. als Kriegsgefangene/r) erlebte und umgekehrt.

Die Dissertation entstand im Rahmen der Forschungsgruppe B-4 Space - identity - locality. The construction of knowledge related identity spaces des Exzellenzcluster 264 Topoi.
