Dal Tornio alla Mensa. La ceramica come strumento d'indagine per la ricostruzione di un paesaggio del banchetto ad Akragas
The study provides a comprehensive picture of tableware used in Akragas through the analysis of excavated contexts. Starting from the examination of ceramic shapes, the research will proceed with the restitution of chronological grids and of the relationships between common ware and its use in everyday life. The analysis will also focus on the architectural structures hosting the banquet for a contexualisation of the local tableware within the different social settings in which it was used in the 6th and 5th centuries BC. The final aim is to define the banquet culture considering the role of food, food practices, and symposium performances in the formation of the Greek polis in a colonial context.
The final objective is to present a more complete picture of the production and consumption of common pottery in Akragas, filling a gap in knowledge which still insists in the Archaeology of Greek Sicily. Finally, a diachronical 3D reconstruction of the banquet throughout the archaic and classical periods will be approached for museum to promote the project results within the broader audience which hypothetically populates museums and exhibitions.
