The Early Bronze Age Network project is a Social Network Analysis (SNA) of Early Bronze Age (EBA) polities in Northern Mesopotamia. During the mid-to-late third millennium a number of autonomous and semi-autonomous polities arose across Northern Mesopotamia. Using SNA the project is designed to investigate the connections between city-states, a topic that has – until now – only been investigated on a cursory level, often focusing on a specific artifact type (ceramics, tablets, etc.). Using published excavation reports the project will create an extensive database of material culture and cultural markers which can be used to investigate the interconnectedness of the various polities. SNA analysis uses the material culture as a proxy for connections between the sites and will be used to investigate questions of centrality, trade, sociopolitical dominance and elite and non-elite interaction spheres. The analysis will provide data for testing current theories of interaction in the region.
