Aims of the partnership and tasks of the Berliner Antike Kolleg
The Berliner Antike-Kolleg (BAK) is an inter-institutional framework for cooperation in the promotion and strategic development of research into the ancient world in the Berlin and Brandenburg.
The aim of the cooperation partners is twofold: to build stronger links within the ancient studies landscape in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, which is highly diverse with respect to the range of both disciplines and institutions represented, and, by doing so, to increase the visibility of ancient studies in the region. To this end, the participating institutions cooperate in four areas: “Research”, “Graduate Student Training”, “Digital Concepts and Methods”, and “Knowledge Transfer”. The partners work together in the BAK:
- to identify new, innovative research topics and support cooperative projects,
- to provide structured, inter-institutional and transdisciplinary doctoral programmes of the highest calibre and promote excellent junior researchers in the fields of ancient studies and related disciplines,
- to test new applications of digital technologies in and for ancient studies,
- to intensify the discourse between ancient studies research and society with the aim of increasing transparency, participation and transfer and of instilling an awareness of the relevance of research on the ancient world.
