Fifth International Partner for BerGSAS – Cooperation Agreement between BerGSAS and OIKOS

A core element of the profile of the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) is its Doctoral Student Exchange Programme, through which BerGSAS has established an attractive and robust international network. In addition to its four existing partner universities in Ann Arbor/Michigan, Harvard, Oxford and Princeton, BerGSAS has now gained a fifth partner with OIKOS.

News from Jan 29, 2026

OIKOS stands for Onderzoeksinstituut Klassieke Oudheidstudiën and is the National Research School in Classical Studies in the Netherlands. In practice, it is a consortium of six Dutch universities and one Belgian university: two universities in Amsterdam as well as universities in Ghent, Groningen, Leiden, Nijmegen and Utrecht. All seven institutions are highly regarded, research-intensive universities with strong expertise in the field of ancient studies.

BerGSAS and OIKOS have concluded a cooperation agreement (Memorandum of Understanding), which was recently signed. The agreement aims to promote reciprocal doctoral exchanges between the partner institutions.

It provides for visiting doctoral researchers to be integrated into the respective graduate school and to receive academic supervision at the host university. This ensures that the research stay offers substantial academic added value and constitutes an overall intercultural enrichment of the doctoral programme.

BerGSAS looks forward to welcoming the first OIKOS doctoral researcher from Utrecht at the beginning of the winter semester 2026/27.

Doctoral researchers from all BerGSAS programmes interested in participating in the exchange are invited to contact regina.attula@berliner-antike-kolleg.org
