Dr. Ralph Birk

Ralph Birk studied Egyptology, Ancient History and Theology in Cologne and Brussels. He completed his thesis in 2015 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München following a three-year scholarship at the interdisciplinary research group "Forms of Prestige in Ancient cultures". His thesis examines the diachronic evolution of the high-priestly families in Thebes in the Ptolemaic period. He then worked as a post-doc fellow at the Graduate School "Distant Worlds" in Munich, where he headed the focus area "construction of elites" until August 2018. Since September 2018, Ralph Birk is a research associate at the Einstein Center Chronoi in the project "Diglossia in Ptolemaic Egypt", which involves the Freie Universität Berlin and the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
