Innovation Lab: Research Center of Ancient Studies
Research Center of Ancient Studies
The Research Center of Ancient Studies (RCAS) brings together the international research activities of BAK. Together with their Berlin colleagues, the fellows from all over the world develop new research questions and approaches.
Numerous activities from 2015 to 2017 are supported by funding provided by the Einstein Stiftung Berlin. The Test Topics form a core element of the present work at RCAS: these are pilot projects that receive a start-up funding in order to examine current research questions with regard to their aptitude in generating longer research projects. While doing so, the potential of scientific methods of analysis or digital techniques for the study of the ancient world is explored.
Conferences, and workshops at RCAS promote the scholarly exchange and consolidate Berlin as a globally outstanding venue for the study of antiquity. Starting in autumn 2016, working space for all international fellows will be provided in the Otto-von-Simson-Strasse in Dahlem, a centrally located villa on the university campus.
The new Einstein Centre Chronoi develops RCAS as a distinctive framework for research in ancient civilizations and their historical impact, a framework that is not provided by universities or other institutions. With the formats Research Collegium and Explorations BAK offers suitable ways to foster deep trajectories such as explorations in time and human depth.
