The Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) is home to five doctoral programs located at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Each program includes traditional curricula, while at the same time breaking new ground by placing increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary research. BerGSAS has been awarded the "Einstein Doctoral Programme" prize of the Einstein Foundation Berlin on January 2017.

The close cooperation with the non-university research facilities that constitute the Berliner Antike-Kolleg (BAK) is an innovative situation. Scholars conducting research at these institutions are usually affiliated with the universities through honorary professorships. They contribute both their expertise and the resources of their research institutions to our doctoral programs.

Within the framework of cooperation agreements, BerGSAS has entered into arrangements for doctoral exchanges with several top-flight universities in other countries. These make it possible for doctoral students to complete part of their training abroad.

All of our doctoral programs are accredited at both the Dahlem Research School (DRS) and the Humboldt Graduate School (HGS).

BerGSAS was awarded the title "Einstein Doctoral Programme" by the Einstein Stiftung Berlin in January of 2017.
